- 1. A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING EXISTENCE OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY AND REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO PROVIDE DIRECT RENTAL HOUSING ASSISTANCE FOR COVID-19 PANDEMIC.ResolutionAction: recommended for approval Passed
A motion was made by Committee Member Triplett, seconded by Committee Member Yates that this Resolution be recommended for approval. President James stated this Resolution is to encourage Congress when they consider their next package related to the Covid-19 pandemic to include legislation to help people with their rent by paying directly to their landlords for rent payments. In Kentucky we have an Eviction stay that is in effect until July 1, 2020. However, after July 1, 2020 this will become problematic. In Jefferson County there will be thousands of citizens at the start of eviction. The Government asked the businesses to shut-down due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a lot of citizens have lost their jobs no fault of their own. He stated he don't want to see them evicted on the street. The motion carried by a voice vote and the Resolution was sent to the Consent Calendar.

A motion was made by Committee Member Triplett, seconded by Committee Member Green, that this Ordinance be recommended for approval. The following spoke to the item: - Council Member Piagentini - Dr. Dylan Andanson, University of Louisville - April Enix - Emesle Booker - Committee Member Green - Chair Person Shanklin - Committee Member Triplett - Committee Member Yates - President James The following was discussed: - Beth Burbridge, spoke and presented a presentation regarding saving her friends son's life donating her kidney - Metro Government will allow employees up to 30 days of paid leave for organ donations - 7 days for bone marrow donations per calendar year - Paid leave may include time spent in a screening process - Living donor process - House Bill 46 for living organ donors - Campaign to get African Americans to be donors - Financially most African Americans cannot afford to be donors due to time off from work - Not everyone qualify for a transplant - 736,000 n Transplant wish list - Would like to take the information to Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) - 37 Million people effected - 9,500 people on waiting list - 2,000 on the list in Jefferson County - 8,407 patients on dialysis - Committee Members thanked Council Member Piagentini for presenting House Bill 46 The motion to recommend for approval carried by the following vote and the Ordinance was sent to Old Business to allow other Metro Council Members to become donors.
